Isn't that the whole point of Burn-Proof Technology (to prevent that sorta-thing on less than optimal interfaces)? I sure hope so because we have reached the point where you can't really have a "good" (ie, 5.25 inch) disc burner inside a machine, even if you desire it. It's a bit pricey, but I don't care so much. Review are good (I guess the interface's chipset is reliable). With the industry depreciation of optical-discs, it's getting to be a rare-item (and some-others are cheap-looking, yet still expensive ) Looks like it's still built-like-a-tank. Has a real USB-B socket (like a printer has) for the USB-cable to plug-into it. Pretty sure this is the one you recommend. Put the actual BD safely back in it's case.Īdditionally, this will just about be my only BD/DVD disc player/ripper here in the office, so I can move it to whatever system that needs it, for a I went ahead and ordered one of these. ![]() rip and encode to MKV (with high quality 5.1 sound) and save to my NAS. That way, I can still use it on the Aurora-R1, but also move it to a faster system for Blu-Ray ripping and re-encoding (if I choose to) That's my usual BD work-flow with my favorite BluRay discs. So, first project is removing the 5.25-inch LG BH10LS30 BluRay disc burner/ripper/player, and install it in a good external USB-3.0 enclosure. With the GTX-1070, it currently runs games like Fallout-4 at 1080p just fine (even with graphic settings set to Ultra-High). If it has trouble with Kodi or connecting to Onkyo-607 AVR via HDMI, I might have to re-install its old ATI-AMD HD-5870 1gb. The Home-Theater also has a projector, so I might try some Steam games on it in Big-Picture mode (likely with PS4-controller). Unless I can find another place for it, I'll leave the Nvidia GTX-1070 installed. In the Home-Theater, I just need 1080p video (Blu-Ray quality) and Dolby-Digital True-HD/DTS-HD Master-Audio. It's better than what I use there now, and I think it's still just too-cool to recycle just yet. Since the old Aurora R1 (circa 2010) still works, I'm going to make it my new Windows HTPC and Kodi box. We are getting a new system here, so all systems are being demoted-down one level. ![]()
